Charles Darwin University - our new partner in Australia
Master students of the Faculty of Social Science may apply for an exchange stay (2-6 months) at our new partner institution, the Charles Darwin University by April 1st.
The programme is realized by the Northern Institute of the Charles Darwin University - a distinguished research insitution in the field of social and policy research, providing evidence for policy development, building capacity and responding to the needs of governments and communities in the region. Students will be involved in the current research of the team „Contemporary Indigenous Knowledge and Governance“ and will profit from the excellent academic offering.

Marc Lewis, PhD candidate from the Bangor University (UK) chooses the Ruhr University for a research stay
Marc Lewis, PhD candidate from the Bangor University (UK) has conducted a successful research stay at the Faculty of Social Science in 2018. The exchange was funded by ERASMUS+ and is also open for PhD students from other partner universities.
Marie Jahoda Visiting Professor for international Gender Studies in winter term 2018/19
Prof. Mary E. Fissell, Ph.D., at the Ruhr University Bochum
In the winter term 2018/19 Prof. Mary E. Fissell, Ph.D., from the Johns Hopkins Institute of the History of Medicine in Baltimore (Maryland), will be the Marie Jahoda Visiting Professor for international Gender Studies at the Ruhr University Bochum. Her scholarly work focuses on the history of gender, the body, and medicine in the early modern period. Prof. Fissell will teach "Gender, Sex, and the Body, 1650 – 1830" together with Prof. Dr. Maren Lorenz (compact course in January 2019).
Her Inaugural Lecture "The Extraordinary Affair at Walworth: An Abortionist in Early 19th Century London" will be held on 15th January, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., GA 03/49.

Marie Jahoda Visiting Professor for international Gender Studies in summer term 2018
Prof. Richard Dyer, Ph.D., at the Ruhr University Bochum
Having lectured very widely in Europe, North America and Australia, Prof. Richard Dyer will be the Marie Jahoda Visiting Professor for international Gender Studies at the Ruhr University Bochum in summer term 2018. His work has focused on issues of Entertainment and Representation, the relationship between them and includes pioneered work on Musicals, Stars, Lesbian and Gay Cinema and Culture, Critical Whiteness and Popular European Cinema as well as writing books on Pastiche, Music and Film, Serial Killing and the films Brief Encounter, Seven and La Dolce Vita.

Höffmann Science Price for Prof. Dr. Jürgen Straub
The Höffmann Academic Award for Intercultural Competence 2017 has been conferred to Prof. Dr. Jürgen Straub on February 6 at the University of Vechta. The aim of the Höffmann Academic Award, sponsored by the company Höffmann Reisen GmbH, is to support the endeavours of an outstanding academic by awarding a prize of 10.000 € to groundbreaking work carried out on topics of intercultural competence.

Transatlantic Ruhr Fellowship 2018
The Transatlantic Ruhr Fellowship Program provides highly motivated students from the University Alliance Ruhr with a unique experience to expand their portfolio and networks to the New York metropolitan area. RUB students can apply for a fellowship to complete an internship and accompanying programme in the New York metropolitan area in summer 2018.

Graduation Grants of 400€ monthly for a period of four months are offered to international students who are studying at RUB and plan their graduation within the winter term 2017/18. Find out more here.
